What to Expect

How telemedicine works

Scheduled with your practice

Contact the practice where your child receives care to request a virtual visit.

Patient must be present

Your child needs to be present during the visit.

Physically in Maryland

The patient must be located in Maryland at the time of the appointment.

The right visit format

Your provider will decide whether video or an in-office exam is appropriate.

Choosing the Right Visit

When telemedicine may be appropriate

Call first. The office will help determine whether your child needs a virtual or in-person visit.

A virtual visit may help

Telemedicine can be useful when a concern can be evaluated safely through conversation and video, including selected follow-up questions. Your practice will confirm whether it is appropriate.

An office exam may be needed

Ear pain, concerns requiring a lung exam, and symptoms that may need laboratory testing cannot always be evaluated adequately by video. Your provider may recommend an in-person visit instead.

Behavioral Health

Looking for virtual therapy?

Teletherapy may be available through MAPP Behavioral Health. Mental-health intake and scheduling use a separate phone and email pathway.
